6 Worst Sexual Faux Pas
Sex is more than just what happens between the sheets, and the whole experience can be ruined by poor etiquette. Just like a cute guy can end up seeming not so cute if he's rude, selfish or mean, a perfectly good sexy time session can go off the rails by a guy with bad bedroom manners. We came up with a list of what we feel are some of the worst sexual faux pas.

Your Bed: Sleep. Sex. That's It.

Why Doesn't This Person Have a Photo Online?

It's a simple question that I'm often asked: "Why do so few potential mates post a photo online?"

The answer isn't quite so simple.

There are three basic types of people when it comes to posting photographs online.

The "I Have No Secrets Person"
This is the person who doesn't have any secrets and doesn't care if everyone knows they've posted a profile on an online dating website. These are the same people who post what they ate for breakfast on Facebook and hang out at bars on the weekend.

The "I'm Too Fat Person"
Undoubtedly, this person is female. She is lacking in self-esteem and is at least fifty pounds overweight. She wants the chance to chat first, to get to know a man, reel him in with how nice and witty she is and then gradually let him know that she's more than just a BBW.

Ironically, these women are often great prospective dates - they're nice, smart, genuine people who are quite attractive in appearance if only they can get past the first impression of "whoa, she's too fat!" Hence, the legitimate hesitation to post a photo online.

The "I'm a Privacy Freak Person"
This group is split equally between men and women. Believe it or not, THIS is the group from which you will find the best potential dates. Why? Because these are the people who have genuine reasons to maintain their privacy. Why? Because they have well-paying jobs, are respected in the community, and have the most stability in their lives.

It almost sounds counter-intuitive. But think about these scenarios. Corrections officers, police officers, teachers, lawyers, doctors, dentists and public-service employees generally do not want to date the people with whom they interact on a daily basis. They want to maintain some degree of anonymity until they "get to know you a little better". That's not a BAD thing; it's a sign of someone looking for a genuine relationship who doesn't want to have the whole world know he's looking for a new mate.

So, what does that mean for you? If you are comfortable posting a photo of yourself online, go ahead! Be sure to check out our future post detailing what types of photos are most useful. If you are hesitant to post a photo, that's fine too - just be prepared to share a photo quickly once start chatting with someone - we all like to have a mental image of who we are speaking with!

I have to admit to being spoiled by our warmer weather today and decided to fire up the grill outside on the patio. These apple-stuffed pork chops were easy to make and the everyone was pleased with the grilled flavor we've been missing all winter long!

  • 1/8 tsp onion powder
  • 1/8 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/8 tsp paprika

Food We Love: Cheesy Chicken Corn Chowder

This chowder was super-simple to make, and works well for an impromptu dinner. We made last minute plans to grab a movie from the local library and have a quiet night at home. Preparation time took about 15 minutes, followed by an additional 15 minutes of periodic stirring - just enough time to wash the cutting board, open a bottle of wine, and make a quick Caesar salad.

Ingredients:
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 clove garlic, finely minced
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 2 chicken breasts, cubed
  • 2 cans of Campbell's condensed cheddar cheese soup
  • 2 soup cans of milk
  • 1 1/2 cups salsa
  • sour cream to garnish

This morning, I had to take my automobile in for an oil change. I grabbed a book out of our home library that I knew I could read in the service lounge while I waited. It was a good choice, I actually finished the entire book in the time it took for my car to be ready.

The book is called 20 Communication Tips for Couples: A 30-Minute Guide to a Better Relationshipby Doyle Barnett.

Why Should a Man Get Married?

First, let me say that I'm going to re-direct you to another site to read the full article and associated comments. I didn't include this in our "Links We Love" as I really appreciate the author, Trent, and have been a faithful reader of his financial blog on a daily basis for several years.

Let me chime in for a moment from a woman's point of view:

I you are ever uncertain, even only periodically, about marriage... don't get married. The pain and suffering, financial and emotional, from divorce is not worth the couple of blissful months/years of married life. Many of the benefits Trent lists can be achieved through co-habitation, with the only real exceptions being (1) the option to file taxes as married filing jointly, (2) the benefits of receiving a spouses social security benefits upon death, and (3) possibly the benefit of shared health insurance.

Is it Acceptable to Forget Your Mate's Birthday?

My friend Marcie asked me this question the other day as we were sitting in Canton sharing a couple of Coronas's and steak burritos. She wanted to know if it was acceptable that her boyfriend of almost-a-year failed to recognize her birthday.

Is there some kind of time frame when it's okay for him to claim he (1) didn't know your birthday, or (2) forgot your birthday? Marcie's not sure at this point which is really the case, and when she finally got around to confronting Jason, she didn't get a really clear answer.

If you're in a new relationship, at what point do you share birthdays? Do you sneak a glance at her drivers' license when she pulls it out to buy liquor? Do you ask point blank? Do you drop a hint?

Food We Love: Easy Dinner for Two - Chicken and Rice

Pixomar
I found this recipe in an insert packaged with a magazine I received last week. I made it for dinner last night, after making a few substitutions with items from my freezer and pantry. Over the years, I've found that many delicious-sounding recipes call for items I don't have on hand, even with what I consider to be an extensive selection in my kitchen. Often, a few modifications can easily make a meal with our favorite ingredients.

Here's the recipe, as modified and prepared:
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cups brown rice
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 2 cups sliced mushrooms
  • 1 cup diced onions
  • 1 clove minced garlic
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1/3 cup white wine
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas
  • salt and pepper
